The Valentine month is inspiring me – to inspire you to add some romance to your home. Not necessarily talking about the “couples” kind of romance… more like the “deliciously romantic home”  kind.

Romance, in the sense of home décor, could mean lots of things, to get you started:

Lighting:  When the day is done and the sun goes down, go for candle light, or, for the general look that candle light gives; warm, peachy, and soft. Add dimmers to your light fixtures, it costs about five dollars and you can switch the switch yourself. (yes you can !) .  Use 3-way bulbs in lamps, wherever possible.  Burn your candles! don’t just have them sitting there.

Texture:  Pillows, throws, rugs. I want to see some insanely soft pillows, light as a feather throws and flokati rugs where you step out of bed, shower, etc.

Opulence: Layering creates it.  Key locations to emphasize; dining table, sofas, favorite chair, bed. How?   Extra.  Opulence is about having more than is necessary.  Use things in unusual ways…. sling a shawl over the table that already has a table cloth and a runner on it, dig out silk scarves, or glorious lengths of ribbon, braid or lace and just tie and bow it around pillows, lamp shades, bedposts, wherever.  Get the idea?

Fragrance: Get wax fragrance tarts and a warmer… try scents like rose, patchouli, sea breeze, lilac…. leave the fruity, and sweet choices.
