A Rug is Born

What do you do when you have a very large, totally empty living room that is oddly shaped and requires a custom rug ?
Why, you call WestBay, of course.
And, after Ginger (me) has taken it all in-stride and broke not a bead of sweat about this, seemingly, daunting assignment…. what does SHE do?
Why, she turns to the remarkable firm of Patterson and Flynn… THE go-to company for custom made rugs.

Here is the rug used in the picture above-

So this is how I found myself slogging through a gloomy day in DC, hopelessly lost due to inSANE detours and closures, frantically trying to get myself to the Washington Design Center.

Imperial Rim

In the middle of… let’s call it “a minor breach in Traffic Etiquette”, I was approached by a Traffic Control lady (kinda’ like being sent to the Principal’s office, but if the Principal were storming up to your car). I felt sure I was about to get chewed out… but NO!
suddenly the clouds parted,
the choir sang,
and the Traffic Lady appeared as an angel!
She was nice and helpful and gave me perfect directions, and the whole attitude of the day changed because of her…
Thank You, Ms. Nice Traffic Lady!

That little miracle, coupled with a quick spin thru Starbuck’s for some Liquid Positivity and a cake pop…. breakfast of Heroes! and I was ready to meet my client at the Washington Design Center to explore options and set a game plan.

Once at the Patterson Flynn Showroom in the Design Center, Madeleine and Marc, the showroom managers, were absolutely wonderful – never pushy. Marc was a joy to work and chat with. Madeleine is talented and up-to-date on the latest trends. We handed her our color scheme and she was on-point with every rug sample she showed us.

Ancient Coin

Just like Magic, they will send our choices off to NY where their artists will work with us on color and design. In about four weeks they will create and send us a preliminary sample. And once we approve it, our custom rug will be here in 12 weeks. Yay! So this was the beginning of creating a custom-made rug – stay tuned for further developments!
A beautiful quality rug is serious investment, one that can last for generations. They hold their value and even appreciate with time.
Happy rug shopping!
