GO FOR THE GLOW

Here’s the latest update on my life… and it’s BIG!

MISSION: ADVENTURE… going on a trip, just Me and Cash

TIME OF DEPARTURE: NOW

DESTINATION: Gorgeous Puerto Rico!

ITENERARY: We plan to start out in San Juan, the second oldest city in the Americas, and work our way over to the in-laws. If time allows we’ll take a day trip to El Conquistador in Fajardo and have lunch or dinner (Five star Hotel with beautiful views) aprox 1hr from San Juan.

ACTIVITIES: They call this a “vacation”??? I’m getting exhausted just looking at my schedule!

Maybe we will take a Catamaran snorkeling tour snorkelpr.com

Or have a cool pina colada- (sorry Cash, next year buddy) at Barrachina, birth place of the pina colada. barrachina.com

YUM!!

We will defiantly hit Aguaviva for their amazing ceviche bar.   oofrestaurants.com

I’ve never gone to the Bacardi  Factory, but family says it’s a must:    casabacardi.org

Okay, I must admit… all the eating ( and drinking) doesn’t sound too strenuous !

This trip Cash and I are zip lining – YIKES!!

I get a little nervous just on a second story balcony – what on earth was I thinking when I signed-up for this!  But really, if I don’t chicken-out it will be amazing!

And, what I am SO looking forward to – and will be the highlight of the trip is when we GO FOR THE GLOW.

Puerto Rico has some of the few remaining bioluminescent bays left in the world.  It’s THE most Magical experience you can have.  If you ever get the opportunity – PLEASE go and see it – the Bio Fluorescent Bay in Fajardo. biobay.com

Insider Tip:  Do not go on a full Moon ! For the best effect, you need a dark night.   I recommend you find best tour group through hotel.

WE’LL BE BACK SOON — WITH LOADS OF PHOTOS!

Adios!

Revitalize Bamboo

Great color combo by Jonathan Adler

Spray painting chairs is an almost free mini-makeovers anyone can do.

What you will need:

drop cloth

Old T-shirt

Sandpaper

Primer

Paint

Southern Living

Kimberly Ayres

Step 1

Find some old bamboo chairs.

Step 2

Place your drop cloth on floor.  Sand the chairs with medium grit sandpaper until they are smooth. You should be able to run your fingers over the chairs without any catching or snagging.  It should be completely smooth.  The paint will not lay smoothly if rough.

Step 3

Grab an old t-shirt and wipe the chairs down.  In order for the primer to adhere properly, the chairs must not have any dirt or dust.

Step 4

Spray primer over chairs, holding the can 6 inches from the surface. Coat evenly. Always spray paint outside to avoid harmful  fumes and the little flecks of paint that will fly everywhere.

Step 5

Once the primer is completely dry, apply your color. Be sure to  coat the spindles and allow to dry. Repeat this step several times.

Benjamin Moore Flame

I just bought these bamboo beauties this morning. The plan is to paint them bright red and replace the cushions.  I’ll keep you posted!!

The Shopping‘s Great – Wish You Were Here !

ON LOCATION AT: The High Point Market, North Carolina; the largest furnishings industry trade show in the world, bringing more than 85,000 people to High Point every six months. Serious retail home furnishings buyers can be found in High Point twice a year because if you can’t find it in High Point…it probably doesn’t exist.

Current Demographics:

180 Buildings

10 Million Square Feet of Showspace

80,000 Attendees Each Market

More Than 2000 Exhibitors

106 Countries Represented

Tens of Thousands of New Product Introductions

Approximately 10% of Attendees Are International

Even as a kid I’ve always loved to decorate and drooled over catalogues, making lists of things I wanted for my bedroom ( a “too cool for words” waterbed was number one on my list !)I’m a Grown-up Interior Designer now and, let me tell you, anticipating the pilgrimage to High Point Market is like a kid on the way to Disneyland!

I looked forward to the trip for months. On arrival, the contagious, upbeat excitement was palpable everywhere. The area was packed with designers and buyers looking for the new & fresh in the vast world of home furnishings. This is Epicenter! THE latest and greatest in trends are presented, displayed and discussed at this Mecca.

The High Point experience also includes many educational seminars along with concerts and complimentary snacks and beverages. There were many vendors that I loved, but my favorite picks are: NCA Designs, Cyan Designs, and especially, Global Views. While NCA carried the most beautiful leather chairs, Cyan had dramatically elegant chandeliers, and Global Views stunningly unique accessories.

Trends:

  • “Matchy matchy“? Totally last season! Instead: The Art of The Mix !
  • Prominent pops of color in both finishes and fabrics
  • Wood finishes? Light to medium toned now (think: driftwood, whitewash)   emphasis on distressed.
  • Focus? on shapes - geometrics, sillhouettes, modern takes on Gothic furniture and the trellis and Greek key motif revisited
  • Ethnic? Definitely. Tribal and cultural designs, particularly in fabrics but also in hardware

The next big event is October 22-27, 2011. It’s for Trade Members only, but the web site is open to all! For more information on the High Point Market, please visit http://www.highpointmarket.org/.
